24 Hour Challenge 2007
Recap
Arizona's first-ever 24 Hour Short Film Challenge was an overwhelming success as 47 teams of filmmakers from Arizona and California created 1-5 minute films in just 24 hours. Thirty-four teams completed this task.
Featured in the Arizona Republic, the 24 Hour Challenge made a splash with its debut. "I was pleasantly surprised at the great turnout," said Jae Staats, A3F Director and Founder. "For our first year to get more than 40 teams just goes to show you how many talented filmmakers are out there."
The event kicked off with a pumped-up crowd of more than 200 people at Majerle's 9 Lounge in downtown Phoenix. Part mixer for actors, actresses, directors and producers and a party for the 24 Hour and A3F All-Stars teams ... the energy flowed and excitement was in the air!
The guidelines for the 24 Hour teams were revealed on October 6 at 12noon on the A3F web site. Teams had to create a film based on the theme, Quick Escape, a line of dialogue, "I have a bad feeling about this." and a prop where one or more characters had to either tie or untie a knot. 24 hours later, teams turned in their films at Zoes Kitchen where a post-challenge party ensued for the tired and exhausted filmmakers! Free food and music by Brant Phillip helped everyone stay awake and enjoy their 24 hour accomplishments.
The challenge commenced with the official premier of the Top 20 films on October 18 at AMC Arizona Center 24 Theatres. Over 300 people turned out to see these entertaining, worthwhile films and to support and congratulate the talented filmmakers, casts and crews. Over $3000 in prizes and certificates were handed out at the awards ceremony following the films.
And the best moment of the evening? This belonged to the surprise gifts from A3F sponsor CDROM2GO as they handed out a free DVD of the Top 20 films to everyone in attendance. Wow, what a night and what an ending to a great 24 hour challenge!
